Misunderstanding of e-book readers

I think it's good to have an e-book reader where you can download e-books and it's not that uncomfortable without it. Unlike tablets and smartphones with electronic ink displays, it has excellent readability and convenient eyes.

The editor has been using the e-book reader for 5 years. I thought a lot about it before I bought it, but it's one of the products that I think I bought well.

First of all, there's no need to go to the bookstore or wait for delivery to buy the book you want. You can buy and read books in 5 minutes. I also like the fact that I can read books with the font I want. Of course, there are disadvantages. It's frustrating because of the slow speed, and it's annoying to have another product to recharge.

As the advantages and disadvantages are clear, it's hard to say "buy it!" to those who are considering buying it. I think it's better to decide based on your reading habits. Today, we're going to talk about e-book reader.

First, we need to know exactly what the ebook reader is, right?

What is the e-book reader?

It's a device designed to read e-books. If you look at the way it looks, you might think it's similar to 'Tablet", but it's really different. You might be very disappointed if you buy the product while thinking about the tablet. Like the name of the product, this book reader is specialized for reading books.

If you've looked into the e-book reader, you can see that the product is almost black and white. It's because I'm using the 'Electronic Ink' display that I mentioned briefly earlier. The display LCD of smartphones, tablets, and monitors that we commonly use shows the screen through the backlight.

On the other hand, electronic ink uses microcapsules inside the display. The black and white particles in many microcapsules move to express the letters. "When printing documents on a printer, a lot of points are similar to the way they come together to form letters," said Lydibooks.

There are only black and white readers in this book?

No. Black and white particles don't mean there's only black and white particles. There are products with color electronic ink. In addition to the standard black pigment, products that can use other colors to create colors are already being released. These products also have upgraded electronic ink displays, so they don't get tired eyes because of the low light.

But it's not common yet. When I looked at overseas review sites, they recommended that you look at a tablet to read color books, not that the color reproduction rate is good enough to clearly read comic books. In the case of the storyline, it feels like I'm actually reading a book, but there was a review that the comic book is less satisfying due to its low color implementation.

Afterimage?

YES. This afterimage is what you must consider before purchasing the e-book reader. The e-book reader takes pictures with electronic ink, leaving traces where the letters disappeared. And the screen blinks a lot when you turn the page.

The editor knew that there was an afterimage on the ebook reader and bought it, but it was very annoying. Even though I tried to set up the afterimage removal setting, I can see the letters overlapping and the screen gets messy. It took me a while to adjust.

Is it just the device you use? So I searched for it. Other than the crema sound that the editor uses, the afterimage of other products is not that bad. There's less flash when the page goes over. If you care about the afterimage, I recommend you look at the actual use reviews on YouTube before purchasing the product!

*Sugar liquid crystal?

*Sugar Liquid Crystal : Makes broken glass 'sugar' in action scenes in the movie. To make it break easily. Here, the display that breaks easily due to the weak conjunctive liquid crystal is called a sugar liquid crystal.

YES. It's very famous that the screen of the ebook reader is as high as sugar. The panel of the e-book reader we use is very thin like a glass plate that covers a microscope slice. It's because you need a thin electrode plate to mark black and white.

The liquid crystal is thin, so of course the durability will be weak, right? When shocked, it breaks easily and is vulnerable to pressure. When the editor looked into the pre-purchase product, he saw a lot of reviews saying, "I put it in my bag and the liquid crystal was broken," "I dropped it from the chair, but it broke," and "I think it was damaged during delivery." I was so worried that I even found out how to buy it at an offline store.

People around me say, "I use it with you" because of the liquid crystal. It's true that the screen is weak, but if you store the product in a pouch, you can use it with confidence. As for the editor, I've been using a product for 5 years and the screen has never broken.

Don't you need a paper book if you have an ebook reader?

NO. I thought I wouldn't need a paper book if I bought a book reader. No, I'm going to buy paper books. It's because there are a lot of books that don't come out in this book. Sometimes it's late to publish, so if you've been waiting for it, it's faster to buy it with a paper book. Even with a book reader, it's impossible to say goodbye to paper books forever.

Should I write e-books rather than paper books for the environment?

NO. I'm sure you've heard of the word, "You should use an e-book reader to prevent waste." If you think about paper waste and used books that occur every year, it's better to use a book reader than to buy books.

However, the Green Press Initiative, an American non-profit organization, encouraged the use of paper books, saying that paper books emit less greenhouse gas than e-books. "They both have completely different pollution and waste, but the level of e-books is severe," said GoodERleader, a website specializing in e-book analysis.
According to a report released by the agency, paper books are read by other people through used bookstores or recycled as paper materials when their value falls from users. On the other hand, this book reader is thrown into landfill. Even if you break down batteries, panels, etc., you can't recycle used electronic products.
In addition, when comparing the amount of carbon dioxide generated in the process of making e-books and tablet use, including e-book readers, paper books are more like eco-friendly.

Can I borrow e-books for free?

YES. Have you ever borrowed a book from a library? If you use the ebook reader, you can also check out e-books for free.

Depending on the device, there are 'Electronic Library' and 'Open Library' functions. You can use this. If you have a library at work, you can rent e-books at the company library, the local library you live in, and the school library. You don't have to go to the library yourself, but you can rent books with a few touch. However, you have to wait a long time for popular books.

Should I buy an e-book reader? Or not?

The e-book reader is lighter than regular tablets and paper books, making it very convenient to carry around. You don't have to worry about the battery because it consumes less power. But it can be frustrating because it's slower than a smartphone or PC. If you drop the device well, it might be better not to use the less durable e-book reader.

As I said before, it would be best to decide on the purchase of products based on your reading habits and preferences. Since it's a product that you use for a long time once you buy it, I recommend you to buy it after seeing it offline.
